Initially drawn in by the fantastical premise, I found myself disappointed upon delving into the story. Julie, the protagonist, proved to be a vexing character. While I empathized with her grief, flashbacks gradually revealed her as inherently self-centered and grating. Compounding my frustration were the “antagonists” of the narrative: Liam and Taylor, Sam’s childhood friends, harbored longstanding animosity toward Julie. Following Sam’s demise, they unjustly blame her, exhibiting cruel behavior and directing unwarranted racism towards Julie’s Asian friends.
